Classic Butter Cake Recipe

🧈 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 ½ cups (310g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, room temperature
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract

🔪 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch pan or two 9-inch round pans.
  2. Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy (about 4-5 minutes).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, starting and ending with flour. Do this in 3 parts.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan(s) and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes (round pans) or 40–45 minutes (9×13 pan), or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

🍓 Optional:

Top with powdered sugar, buttercream frosting, or fruit and whipped cream.
