Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups (155g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 9×9-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the brownie layer:
    • In a bowl, mix melted butter and sugar until smooth.
    • Add eggs and vanilla extract, whisking well.
    • Spread the brownie batter evenly into the prepared pan.
    • Sift in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until combined.
  3. Prepare the cookie dough layer:
    • In another bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until fluffy.
    • Add egg and vanilla, mixing well.
    • Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined.
    • Fold in chocolate chips.
  4. Assemble:
    • Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie layer and gently spread it.
    • Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top if desired.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool completely before slicing into bars. Enjoy!
